Well, the food was great, but I don't know if the T-Shirt can be saved :( Even the cleaners says Curry is really dang tough
But I digress...
The Khao Soi happened to be on the counter, and it was enough to draw me in for my second visit to Assembly Chef's hall.
The broth was very rich, creamy, and wicked flavorful, not in a gluttonous way, but not a flavored and spiced bone broth in the slightest! They do have a spice station so you can make the broth a little more fiery, which I decided to go for! This is great because mild, medium, and hot means different things to different people.
The other ingredients were great as well, my only half complaint is regarding the beef. It's the large chunks, man. When you have pieces that large, you only get a handful of "bites" of beef, and while you're chewing on it, not much else fits (well, it would be even messier, and rude in some cultures, but I'm not here to judge).
I for sure wouldn't mind returning if I am back in Toronto, I'll just bring a shirt I don't really care about, or a bib (no judgement, right **crickets**) -

I have been coming here ever since assembly opened because I love khan san road and Thai food. I've been waiting for the menu to change but after all this time, nothing has changed. Today is my breaking point; I feel like I HAVE to tell people about how bad the food is here.
I always get the pad kra prao small for $13 (which is quite ridiculous for the small little portion you get). The meat is pre-fried and has been sitting. The rice used to be really good, but has recently become hard and disgusting. The quality of the food has decreased dramatically in the past year. I'm not sure if it's because the people have become lazier or if it's just too expensive to maintain this little place. The result is disgusting and bad Thai food and brings a bad name to Khao San Road, which I love. Please increase the quality of the food and / or decrease the price. Until then I will be eating next door at isshin. -

After a couple of attempts trying to order their Khao Soi at lunch, I finally managed to try it before they were sold out. With a hefty price of $17.00 for their Khao Soi for a smaller portion compared to Pai or Sukhothai, it was kind of not worth it.
It was still delicious but I think I rather walk to Pai for their Khao Soi. Little Khao's Khao Soi was very flavourful, their braised meat was not as tender but okay. The fatty side of the meat softened the meat a bit but still a bit tough. I love the fact that they had a spice station. Khai soi is usually mild but with their station, you can control the spice levels and I added the chili oil, fresh chopped green chilis and added lots of the fresh chopped red chilli peppers into my bowl.
Another thing that kinda bothered me was the fact that they ran out of take out bags. The walk to my office is like 15 minutes and carry the Khai Soi with the napkin, spoon, knife and chopsticks was already going to be disasterous for me considering I'm pretty clumsy. After 5 steps to the right, I dropped my spoon and fork. -____-. I'll be sure to bring reusable bags next time.
Anyways, long story short. I would definitely get this dish again if I was balling or could afford a $20 lunch that certain week =p
Happy eating fellow yelpers! -

I've walked through the Assembly Chef's Hall on quite a few occasions, but I've only had the chance to actually eat a meal there once. The place is just always so crowded!
Anyway, on a recent Saturday afternoon, we stopped by and the joint was pretty empty. Score!
I decided to finally check out Little Khao, since Khao San Road is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I went with the Khao Soi because on my various trips to Khao San Road, I've always been tempted to try it but unable to since their Pad Thai is a must-order dish for me.
My first mouthful of the dish pretty much blew me away. The flavor of the Khao Soi's broth is so deep and so rich, while the accompaniments, including the hard and soft noodles and the chunks of tender meat, effectively complement and heighten the whole thing.
However, and this is a big however, the richness of that broth eventually became oppressive. It was almost like trying to eat a full portion of a top-quality gravy, and I'll be honest, I was pretty sick of it as I got to the bottom of the bowl.
I think the dish would be vastly improved by something acidic to cut through that intense richness, but hey, what do I know? Maybe this is the best version of this dish there is and it's just not for me. -

I went to the Assembly Chef's Hall for dinner. After walking around "hall" and checking out all of the food outlets, I decided to try Little Khao. This is a small stall run by the Khao San Road, a restaurant which I have been wanting to try.
I was there at around 5:30, so I was the only person at the food stall at the time. My order was immediately taken, and my food was then assembled. Everything was already cooked, so they just had to assemble everything. The service was friendly and very fast.
I ordered the Pad Gra Prao with Pork (large). The portions were deceptively large as the bowl was somewhat narrow but very deep. They also provided a lot of pork in the bowl, not just a lot of rice. The pork was very flavourful with elements of garlic and basil. There was also enough sauce from the pork to flavour the rice. I didn't find that the egg or cucumber added to the dish. Overall the food it was good, but very basic. This dish was just a ground pork stir fry and was not prepared to order, instead it was already cooked and just kept warm. For the price, I would have expected everything to be fresher.
So, the food was good, but not prepared fresh and the service was fast and friendly. With the options available at the chef's hall, I would try other places before returning to this one.
